Even as business leaders respond to these immediate challenges, however, companies should also be building resilience for what could be a long recession and preparing for a very different environment beyond.

There is still enormous uncertainty, but this we do know: during downturns, companies that act aggressively- yet thoughtfully- to update strategy and invest in the future do much better than those who only play defense.
