The CEOs’ responses to KPMG’s 2018 Global Manufacturing Outlook made it clear that they recognize their enterprises cannot manage the ever-growing complexity of supply chains without digital connectivity, and that they are looking to build on digital transformation opportunities to tighten the connectivity among their businesses, suppliers, and customers.
But while it’s easy to envision what an optimal future state should look like, multiple issues – including the variety and complexity of company and customer-driven requirements that significantly strain supply chains, lack of data that will allow them to understand the variety and complexity, and how to most effectively segment their overall supply chain and operation – are impeding forward movement.
