Industries

Helping clients meet their business challenges begins with an in-depth understanding of the industries in which they work. That’s why KPMG LLP established its industry-driven structure. In fact, KPMG LLP was the first of the Big Four firms to organize itself along the same industry lines as clients.

Reimagining the Healthcare Workforce

 Reimagining the Healthcare Workforce

Video transcript

Mike Fontaine:

(00:01) Today's healthcare providers, networks, and hospitals must turn to new approaches to meet today's employees where they're at. We've all been in the hospital with family members when it seems as though the care team is more focused on filling out forms and entering information on a laptop than caring for the patient while we all know that's not true, and it is certainly not what they intend. Healthcare organizations not only need to address this, but they need to go further. Across all industries, leaders must position their organizations as ones that are ensuring that employees at all levels feel more connected to their work, have a greater purpose, and have a closer connection to their employer and their employer's culture. They also need to be seeing real action that firms are taking in terms of embracing diversity, equity, inclusion, and not just putting lip service to it. They also have to be the ones that are committed to making a positive impact on the wider world, society, and green ways of working.

(00:52) At KPMG, we've created a simple model to help leaders reimagine how their organizations need to take action. It's called A-L-E, or ALE. While not an elixir, it stands for Adopt, Lead, and Engage. It's focused on three tenets. First, for adopt. Adopt digital technologies to supplement and complement employees work. Second, lead your organization through reimagined workforce paradigms. And third, engage your workforce through personalization and purpose. For adopt, we're seeing organizations begin to leverage workflow technologies such as Salesforce or ServiceNow, on top of incredibly renewed focus on their core HCM systems such as Workday, Oracle, Success Factors, or others, to not only automate processes and move administrative tasking, but also to allow employees to become consumers in the workplace and streamline the input of data and analytics. For lead, we are seeing the most successful organizations assessing and activating new ways of working, such as remote work, hybrid, and providing flexible workdays and work hours. A lot of this has taken place since the pandemic, but it's now continuing into what's happened since.

(01:58) Organizations also need to enable direct access to senior executives and often bypass middle management and provide a renewed focus on team-based approaches that need to break down traditional department silos where projects can often get tossed over the fence. Finally, for engage, we are seeing organizations pay much closer attention to workers' needs, offering personalized career paths, providing greater transparency, and fostering flexible work arrangements are now table stakes combined with reducing administrative task. However, improving employee satisfaction at each moment that matters across the entire employee experience journey is what's of most importance.
