When organizations gather and maintain data related to their clients or customers, it may be across disparate systems, which may have differing governance standards and may lack fully developed and ingetrated access controls. Such an approach may not provide a clear picture of data usage and its associated risks across the enterprise, which could lead to misuse of client data. 

KPMG leveraged its proprietary network of professionals and clients to capture their views on how they govern, use, and protect data gathered from their own clients and customers. All information provided by respondents has been anonymized in our report.
